Tom Wahl of Red Fern Farm www.redfernfarm.com developed this cultivar from seed in an experimental breeding program. Regarding the development and naming of this cultivar, Tom named "pawpaws in the south patch after stars visible in the southern hemisphere". One of these named cultivars is Atria. It is a seedling of Susquehanna and Shenandoah. Tom describes it as "large, elongated fruit, low seed, excellent flavor, heavy production, mid season".
