Regulus

Tom Wahl of Red Fern Farm www.redfernfarm.com developed this cultivar from seed in an experimental breeding program. Tom writes "I was able to pick out a few outstanding individuals. The very first of these, and still the most impressive, is one that at first I just called "the superstar" pawpaw. Over the next several years I started finding additional exceptional seedlings. It was a few years later that I checked a planting map to see what was the parentage of the exceptional seedlings. In every case, the exceptional seedlings had resulted from a cross between Shenandoah and Susquehanna. About that time I decided that I needed to start naming these varieties. I decided to name "the superstar" after a really bright star in the sky, and I named it 'Regulus'. " Tom describes the tree as "extremely heavy bearing, extremely large fruit, low seed, excellent flavor, mid season".
